Finding the Quiet Center Amidst the Chaos of Life as a
Religious Educator
Religious Educators are masters at creating and facilitating a plethora of ways to engage people of all ages in faith development. We choose or write curriculum with aplomb. We know how to recruit teachers. We create creative, safe, and fun environments for our children. We sail through Vacation Bible School without taking a breath(?!) We facilitate small groups in our sleep. But something is missing….
How do we nurture our own relationship with God? How, in the midst of the chaos of life as a
Religious Educator, do we reach and live from that quiet center where God dwells within us? During this workshop we will be exploring and practicing spiritual disciplines that will renew, nourish, and sustain your relationship with God.
Labyrinths and Wondering - Children and God “Being” Together
Children are naturals at prayer. As adults who care about children and their growing friendship with God, one of our jobs is to create and enable space where children and God can “be” with each other. Walking labyrinths – ancient paths for meditation and prayer – is one way for this to happen. In this workshop we will walk a labyrinth through the eyes of a child. And as children, we will wonder through our experience together using art and prayer.
Labyrinth Building 101
Through the centuries labyrinths have been used by people of all faith traditions for meditation and prayer. Individuals and organizations are building them in lawns, meeting spaces, and outdoor patios. In this workshop we will build and walk a Cretan labyrinth – while gaining the skills to build a labyrinth in a space of your choosing. Although labyrinths may look complicated and difficult to build, anyone can build one using simple and inexpensive materials.
